The VRG forums allow embedding of YouTube videos. In order to embed a YouTube video in a post, from the YouTube page which hosts the video, click "Share this video". Select and copy the code that is created when you click on "Share this video". Next, to embed the video on this forum, type the following: [youtube]PASTE The Code here from the YouTube video[/youtube]

Your embed text will look something like this:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjfZTal9IGw[/youtube]

Jim:

Having trouble doing this. Do I also need to type "PASTE" in front of the URL from the "share" box on Youtube where I got the URL?

Mack,
Paste the YouTube link here and I'll show you what the embed should look like.

Jim:

Please visit this thread entitled "Goodwood Saloon Racing-2012" under "General Vintage Racing Topics" where I tried it both ways.

First I tried using "share" and copied the URL in the box which was http://youtu.be/bZZ-gLgRDrw so I entered it like this:

[youtube]http://youtu.be/bZZ-gLgRDrw[/youtube]

Then I tried it using the URL at the top of the YouTube page which is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZZ-gLgR ... e=youtu.be

so I entered that as:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZZ-gLgRDrw&feature=youtu.be[/youtube]

Should the whole string be entered as a URL like this for the first one?

[url][youtube]http://youtu.be/bZZ-gLgRDrw[/youtube][/url]

Because that doesn't seem to work either. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Must be something very basic.

For some reason YouTube sometimes shortens the URL. If you go to the video and copy the link at the top of the page (browser location) with the fully qualified URL that looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZZ-gLgRDrw and embed it within the youtube tags, that will do it. No URL tag is needed.

Here is what the complete BBCode would look like:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZZ-gLgRDrw[/youtube]

So when I used the YouTube share feature it shortened it and when I used the URL from the browser location it lengthened it. I don't get no respect from YouTube. OK I will give it a try in my original post.

Just a note on this, I believe if you're logged into YouTube, links are prepended with https instead of http (because you're logged in and it's a secure link). The youtube link function doesn't like the "s" in https, so remove that and it should link just fine.

I gather the the forum software was updated because now none of the YouTube videos work any more.

What version of phpBB are we running now? Should we install a plugin to get embedded video capability back?

Stefan,
Same version as prior site. Looking to see if it's an https thing, or, just something odd in the bbcode.

Give me a few - thanks for the note.
