This thread will serve to allow admin/mods to test certain functionalities as they relate to posting, file attachments, and modifications for additional functionality.

Testing image attachment re-sizing:

We currently re-size attached photos, as well as inline photos, to prevent large images (pixel height x width) from wrecking the formatting.
Attached is an image 3264 x 2448. This should revert to approximately 50% the forum width, but should not clip the image.

Not quite 50% width/height, but definitively smaller. Not clipping.

Ian:

Is the standard picture ratio 3:4 or 3:5? What if you start with a pic that has been cropped to something other than 3:4 or 3:5? Does the function, when reducing the size, try to crop it back to a standard ratio?

CSS is handling the image re-sizing, CSS being the style sheet which controls most of the layout - or at least lets you manipulate a bit fancier.
In this case, it's supposed to scale by 50% of the container's width - regardless of the photo's ratio; passing only width assumes height will be resized accordingly. Since it's not quite 50% of the width of the window, I suspect the container it's placed in my have some formatting that's over-riding it a bit, or in actuality, being re-sized to fit within the message window.

It is only scaling - there is no cropping taking place, which would require the server to actually process the image and generate a new file. In this test, and a PM I sent myself with a photo attached, it didn't appear to be cropping. Where are you seeing cropping? The inline photos seem to be scaling correctly as well - but I haven't crawled the forum to see other posts with photos attached.

I can't remember exactly but I posted an image soon after the Forum opened that I thought got cropped a wee bit. I'll go through my posts and try to find it. When I get home this weekend I can try posting a heavily cropped picture (full width but low height) to see what happens. I don't have any photos on this laptop.
