Replying to your post so I can preview.

Which I did. Big improvement. Almost instantaneous. Will try again.

Thanks Ian.....great fix. :D

The emoticon made it take a wee bit longer but certainly acceptable.

Ok - new Captcha is activated.

You can't create multiple accounts on the same e-mail address - so if you have a secondary e-mail address you can use to generate a test account, please do so. I have at least one or two I can use, but I'd like other mods/admins to see what it looks like in practice. The size, number of challenge photos, and colors can be changed - as well as a few other decorative tweaks.

Once you've created your test user and gone through the captcha, PM me the username and we can delete it. Use something along the lines of testuserIan, testuserBob, etc...

Tried it, worked fine. I think it's ready to go.

Ok - cool. If anyone has issues let us know. Otherwise it's active.

Page loading on the forum is extremely slow, that is, worse than before the last fix. I got an error message going from p.1 of this thread to p. 2 http://vrgonline.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=16&start=10 . It may be my ISP. Anyone else having problems?

I've not seen an error message recently - next time it pops up, copy and paste the message you receive and e-email it, or PM me with the contents.

I will next look into setting up a mobile-friendly theme for the forum, so those users that visit from phone or tablet, can have a smoother interface. It will take a little while, as I will need to make the mobile theme match the desktop theme, and I will want to make sure it identifies the browser type (mobile or desktop) correctly.

1) The "picture" thing is much easier than the 'type this smudged up number' thing.

B) Is it possible to have the forum software automagically open links in a new tab? I keep forgetting it doesn't and end up wandering away from the original thread then I can't remember if I was done there or not... Maybe call it the Olde Pharte Feature?

Eric:

I know that with my Logitech mouse if I click on a link using the center roller, rather than the left or right button, it will open that link in a new tab. See if your mouse will do that.

Also, my Dell laptop will do that if I press the left and right buttons below the touchpad simultaneously. I can't remember if these were the default settings or if I had to set them up in "control panel".

Thanks Eric - I too find the wavy number captchas difficult, and this seems to be an easy to use/read alternative.

B) Most browsers allow you to hold down the "control" key (aka: Ctrl) while clicking a link, which will open in a new tab. Right-clicking on a link will also bring up a menu, which provides options to open in a new window or tab.

While it is possible to make all links open in a new window - as was the case with previous versions of the forum software - this was deprecated in current and future versions, so that the forum could achieve a particular code validation.

I think we can start throwing some of these not so obvious user tips into a general "How to".

Of course it will. If the mouse-clickerer remembers to do that... :D
