2019 February & March Vintage Races in Florida

Thu Nov 29, 2018 7:04 pm

There are opportunities for vintage races in Florida currently scheduled for Sebring February 9 & 10 and Palm Beach International Raceway March 23 & 24. They are SCCA events but the vintage group is separate. The vintage portion is organized by Mike Jackson, the Grand Wazoo of VDCA, and has the characteristics of a real vintage race. I did the Palm Beach race last year and it was a lot of fun. Because schedules change it is worth keeping an eye on the dates.

Always good to have more options! We'll be down at Sebring with SVRA at the start of March, and they have an event/school at Roebling in February sometimes (which sounds brave).

I did the March SVRA Sebring race a couple of years ago. We waited in line for about 2 hours past the scheduled time to get into the track. Then I tried their Indianapolis race. There was minuscule track time and there were a couple of showers for about 500 participants. Finally, I tried their fall VIR event. That’s where I became aware that they have national championships. It was close to the last race of the season and people were trying to accumulate points. It reminded me of SCCA Miatas at Summit. It is highly likely that I will never do another SVRA event. We get twice the track time for half the money with VRG not to mention about ten times the fun.
